One can access 101 through Downtown San Francisco or from the East Bay, take the Richmond San Rafael Bridge, (Interstate 580). While these are easy routes to follow, traffic is often heavy. Sonoma North

The northern portion of the Sonoma County Wine Country is considered to start at the City of Santa Rosa. The main throughfare, US 101, takes you in a northwesterly direction up to the northern end at the Town of Hopland. The getaway area of the Russian River valley is found in Sonoma North.

Sonoma South

The southerm portion of the Sonoma County Wine Country is on an off shoot of US 101. If one exits US 101 at State Route 37 and turns north on State Rout 121, the adventure begins. Traveling north and switching on State Route 12 North takes you through the City of Sonoma through the Sonoma Valley an into Santa Rosa.



Napa North

The Napa Valley region is more developed that the Sonoma County area. Consequently the northern wine region starts at the City of Rutherford and proceeds north. Included in this area area are the cities of Calistoga and St. Helena. Both of these areas are known for there minerial springs and natural spas. A great way to conclude any Wine Country trip.

Napa South

As you enter the City of Napa Valley, you enter the most famous region of The Wine Country. While wine making in Northern California started in Sonoma County, the Napa Valley is more famous. So much so that the County has applelations to legally protect the wineries. Napa South also includes American Canyon, Yountville, Oakville, and Oak Knoll.
